LetJog14 Update

At the start of the year a good Twitter friend of mine (I don’t think we’ve ever actually met in real life, we should correct that Dan) suggested that the runners of Twitter challenge themselves to run from Land’s End to John O’Groats – a total of 1,460kms – or LetJog.

I’ve donated… it’s your turn

I’ve said before that I’m not doing this to raise money for charity – it’s just not what is motivating me to do it. But some people do take up challenges for charity. For me to donate my simple rule of thumb has to be that it actually has to be a challenge – not an “everyday” achievement or an excuse for a holiday.

Well, I think we can safely say that cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats AND BACK AGAIN is a pretty serious challenge.

That’s why I’ve donated. And I think you should too.

I used the rough calculator that Martin gives on his page in that 1p per mile equates to £18. Well, given the effort that Martin is putting in that seemed reasonable to me. I split my donation between two of the charities giving them £9 each, but as you can see, they’re all worthy of your money.

Currently Martin will be starting day 4 of his trip, which will see him cycle through half of Scotland, with the goal of reaching John O’Groats and getting halfway through the trip by the end of the day tomorrow. Then all he has to do is turn round and do it all again!

You can follow his progress on Twitter.

And if you feel so inclined, please do donate.

Simply Amazing

I may not be doing my own personal challenge to raise money for charity, but many other people do. And when the challenge is great enough then I’m more than happy to support them.

Well… you can’t get a lot greater than this – Martin Cox from Nottingham will be riding from Lands End to John O’Groats and then back again, all in ten days. He’s looking to raise around £180,000 which will be split between 7 charities.

If you only sponsor one person this year, Martin has to be pretty near the top of your list.

I first came across Martin through his Twitter account @lejogle2012 (Lands End, John O’Groats, Lands End – geddit?) and while I’m pretty pleased with myself when I swim a few miles I regularly see updates from Martin about his 50, 60, 70 or more miles training sessions. His effort and determination definitely put me in the shade and he is definitely someone you should sponsor if you are so inclined.

This amazing effort starts on May 21st and you can follow his progress here.
