Lac Leman

Lac Leman (or lake Geneva as we know it in English) is a real bucket list swim for marathon swimmers. At 70km long it is a similar distance to a two-way English Channel swim and has been swum by only a very select group of swimmers.

That’s why, this summer, I was delighted…

… to be invited to visit some friends who live near the lake.

I didn’t bloody swim it, of course I didn’t – I’m nowhere near a good enough swimmer to do that. I did have a nice dip this morning though.

As for the weekend, I had a lovely time. A really relaxing weekend with friends, mountains, a lake, wine and LOTS of cheese.

Maybe one day I’ll be back with more serious swimming intentions…

I love you all

I have a genuine smile on my face this morning and as Lucy will tell – that’s rare!

Last night I mentioned again on Facebook and Twitter that I needed a buddy to be able to enter the 2Swim4Life event in May next year. In fact, after being prompted by a friend, I updated it to say that ideally I’m looking for a team of buddies, however I need to nominate one to be able to enter.

Well I now have a team!

People volunteered. People volunteered to help me. People volunteered to give up a weekend to stand in the cold (and possibly rain) to help me swim. I am genuinely touched and amazed and slightly overwhelmed.

I’ve said it before, but as a swimmer I couldn’t do these swims without the enormous support of the people behind the scenes. The people who are willing to row a boat or kayak alongside me as I swim; the people who are willing to organise the events themselves and put in the long hours to get it running; and the friends who are willing to support and humour me as I become a swimming bore.

Not only can I now enter the event, but it’s come at a time when I needed a boost. I have one and I’m smiling. Thank you.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen…

… lend me your ears. Or to be more exact please lend me your music tastes.

I’ve got a £15 iTunes voucher and I want to use it to buy a couple of “modern classic” albums that I don’t already own. So what I’d like you to do is use the comments below to make some suggestions. The albums (that I don’t already own) with the most suggestions by Friday 12th October I will buy.

Of course I’m aware of the possibility that this can be “gamed” and you can leave me with two atrocities to download, but… well… I foolishly trust you. But I will download (and listen) to whatever you choose for me.

Thanks 🙂
